Tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, your interests, etc.
I graduated from Sharkey Issaquena Academy (SIA) in 1983 and from Mississippi State University (MSU) in 1987. I have taught for 33 years with 8 years being at SIA. I have been married to Andy Anderson for 32 years and have two children; Ryan, 26, is a mechanical engineer living in Huntsville, AL; and Marlee, 22, is a physical therapy student at UMMC in Jackson, MS.
Do you have a favorite book? How about a favorite movie?
My favorite book would begin with the Bible, but I also enjoy mysteries and Christian romance. As a child, the Little House on the Prarie series was my favorite. I have many movie favorites, but my all-time favorite is a toss-up between Gone With the Wind and The Sound of Music.
If you could wake up in the morning and start a new adventure, what would it be?
I would love to take my time traveling through Europe and Northern Europe. A trip to the Holy Land would also be a must.
What is your favorite thing about teaching?
I love seeing my first graders become more fluent readers and learning new skills throughout the school year. I am continually fascinated by how they change and mature from August to May.
When you're not working, how do you spend your time?
I spend most of my time away from school with my family. I am a member of First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork where I teach Sunday School and enjoy singing in the choir. I always enjoy working in my yard and love to go "antiquing" when I can.
What might we be surprised to know about you?
Most people would be surprised that I once played golf and tennis, and that I have even been scuba diving.
